DINOSAURS IN THE SILENT ERA

The early silent motion pictures often used dinosaurs as comedic novelties. The Ghost of Slumber Mountain stands out from the rest as being the first short subject movie to portray dinosaurs, including a Brontosaurus, Triceratops, and Tyrannosaurus rex, in a realistic manner. Willis H. O'Brien, a genius and the pioneer of stop-motion photography, created miniature models of the dinosaurs and by repositioning and photographing them for each frame of film he created the illusion of live, moving dinosaurs. This original six sheet poster may be one of only two complete posters of its kind known to exist and is the only one on public display.
